July 2025
Hiya, this is Enid, your BOCS board president. FB memories popped up the blue wig photo from summer 2020. I wasn't long into chemo and nearly hairless. Scarves and wigs. I'm now almost 4 1/2 years "no evidence of disease" and life is amazing. Low grade serous carcinoma. I had never heard of it, #ovariancancer was not on my radar when I was diagnosed just a couple of months into COVID lockdown. I started attending the BOCS monthly meetups by Zoom winter following my chemo, had a 2nd surgery. I was grateful for the Zoom meetings. Over time, I got more involved in BOCS and have served as president over the few years.
If you've experienced ovarian or gynecologic cancer in #centralkentucky or #lexington, we are your people. We welcome all - we arrange guest speakers every other month on related topics and meet up in person at a restaurant in Lexington.
We talk about our treatments, share info from the national organizations #ocra and #nocc as well as organize volunteers to do tabling events to spread awareness of #ovariancancer and #gynecologiccancer symptoms and steps/methods of diagnosis. There is no test for OC.
I had my last surgery January 2021 and I still take an oral med every day. CA125 check every 3 months, and an annual CT scan. Added bonus of a mammogram or breast MRI every six months, one or the other. We talk about these things so if it happens to you, you've got community for support.
Get more info at www.BOCSky.org We've got a great presentation with an overview of OC and GYN cancer, walking you through the steps of how these cancers are approached.
We're here, doing treatment or maintenance, and doing our best to spread awareness and provide community to any affected by these sneaky and deadly cancers.
Contact Rose Lewis or email us. Thank you.
