September 2025
Hiya, this is Enid, your BOCS board president.
If you are or have been affected by ovarian or gynecologic cancer in #centralkentucky or #lexington, we are your people. We welcome all.
We have monthly meetups where we arrange guest speakers every other month on related topics and meet up in person at a restaurant in Lexington. We talk about our treatments, share info from the national organizations #ocra and #nocc as well as organize volunteers to do tabling events to spread awareness of #ovariancancer and #gynecologiccancer symptoms and steps/methods of diagnosis. There is no test for OC.
We've got a great presentation with an overview of OC and GYN cancer, walking you through the steps of how these cancers are approached. We also link to other reputable resources for more information.
Our annual celebration luncheon is 28 September. We've been so busy the last couple of months putting everything together. As a small board of volunteers, we each have our strengths and take care of all the bits and pieces. We have 20 survivors registered along with 25 friends, family and healthcare providers. Door prizes, goody bags AND a professional photographer! We'll have an excellent group photo this year!
I've been on the BOCS board since 2021. I came in as vice president. I've been president now, in name and acting, for most of the last three years. I am resigning my position at the end of this year. I have taken on a chair position for a workgroup of an international library consortium, also volunteer, but an extension of my profession, my "day" job. I will stay on the board and continue my behind the scenes work - our FB page, Instagram, our website and more. I'm more of the tech person and I like it.
Leading BOCS these last many years, it's been challenging. We're small with a small budget. After my diagnosis in early 2020, just after COVID hit, UK GYNONC gave me a BOCS "care" bag. That summer I reached out and started attending Zoom meetings monthly. I am deeply committed to BOCS. but I need a break and we need new leadership, and I need to focus on my profession in 2026. I encourage you to volunteer for the board and join these faithful folks. We keep going forward and we'd like some new faces and ideas to be part of our future.
Contact Rose Lewis or email us. Thank you.
